Our house is almost 60 years old so you can imagine what a nightmare our plumbing system is like. The kitchen is not so bad which surprises me considering the people that lived here before us fried everything. And of course they poured everything down the kitchen drain. Anyways – we’ve had problems with our bathroom sink and now our tub is starting to slow down. I’m the type of gal that in the past would pour bottle upon bottle of Liquid Plumber down pretty much anything that had a hole, even the toilet! But after doing some snooping around, I’m thinking that ain’t such a good idea anymore! I’ve tried a few different home remedies like soda, non-chlorine bleach, hot vinegar and just plain old boiling water. None of those really worked all that well. Then I read Healthy Child, Healthy World! If you have not read this book – go out and buy it immediately! I won’t go into detail and spoil it for those that actually will read it – but – they suggested 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup baking soda…let it fizz…then pour boilng water down the drain. Voila! It worked instantly! Completely cleared up the clog AND I didn’t dump a bunch of crap down the drain! Super cheap too – like 50 cents for the baking soda and probably a quarter’s worth of vinegar. YAHOO!!
