Holy shit what a month. It all started with my hubby giving himself 2nd degree burns on his hand, then he caught a cold, then Kiki got an ear infection along with croup and it all ended with me getting the worst effing cold I’ve ever had in my entire life. Ever. Never seen anything like it. We ran the scale on treatments too. Eastern, western, homeopathy – even praying to get better and eventually praying for someone to take me out back and put me out of my misery. But we gave it all a try….and for the most part, everything worked in it’s own way. Kiki and I ended up on antibiotics – not my first resort but was definitely needed. Andy got away with just using Eastern treatments. So here is what we tried for each pertaining ailment. Try them out if want and be sure to let me know how it goes.
Cough: herbal expectorant by Naturade and well, just keep reading. Hee hee.
Eucalyptus oil: used in a burner to help open up sinuses and clear congestion. You can also put a little on a q-tip and put around your nostrils. DO NOT shove q-tip up nose. Do I really have to say that?
Lavendar rice wrap: toss in micro for 3 minutes and then place on face. Helps to open up sinuses.
Probiotics – take recommended dose 4 hours after antibiotics. You should be taking these every day anyways – but definitely while on antibiotics.
And this is the really gross one…but it does work and I recommend it to anyone that has a cough they can’t shake. Even the little ones. Ok, you ready? It’s called “snake juice” and it’s a Chinese herbal supplement. It’s Chinese name is Sanshedan Chuanbeiye. The ingredients listed are snake gall, fritillary seed, almond, cane sugar and distilled water. What? Snake gall, you say? YEP. See they take a snake’s gall bladder and suck out all the bile inside. Soooo gross I know! But let me tell you it’s a flipping miracle drug!!!!!! Andy had a cough for weeks he could not get rid of and he took one vial of this stuff and the next day, his cough was gone! I gave it to Kiki for croup – CURED. That’s right. No…more…cough.
You can get it from your friendly, neighborhood TCM Practitioner (Ahem, Keith Bell) and it’s pretty cheap. If you’re local in RIC and looking for a holistic practitioner…please go see Keith. You can see him for any sort of health ailment or for just general well being. He is wonderful man and I trust him with my health and my son’s health. (Love you boo!)
OK – that’s all for now. I’ve been so out of the loop for the past few weeks and I’ve got a ton of stuff to catch up on. Talk more soon!

Hi Dallas! I have a one year old and a 3 1/2 year old. We have taken our 3 1/2 year to an acupuncturist (for acupressure) for a few months now. We really like her. It seems to have helped my son’s allergies. Anyway, he went for a treatment today and she hear my one year old’s cough. She suggested the Sanshedan Chuanbeiye. I bought it but I’m apprehensive to use it on a 1 year old. How old is your son?

Hi Tara! Thanks so much for checking out my blog and commenting! Kiran was 1 at the time we gave him Sanshedan. I gave him 1/2 the vial in a medicine dropper. Just use a wine opener to crack the top off…or try the straw if your little one knows how! We still stand by Sanshedan and continue to take it at the first signs of cough. I know it’s scary to give our little ones remedies sometimes but if you do a little research on Sanshedan you will see that it’s been around for a very long time! And has zero side effects when taken according to your TCM practitioner’s recommendation. We also use Loquat at the first signs of sniffles or runny noses…loquat will help keep the lungs healthy and clear. You should be able to find it at your local health food store. The trick is to keep the sniffles up in the nose and draining. If the little one’s nose is running….it’s not running down the throat and into the chest. Once it’s in the chest…it’s harder to treat. Especially since our little beans can’t spit it out! Hope this helps and feel free to hit me up if you need anything else!
