better world shopper

I was digging around on the internet looking for info on the Clorox buyout of Burt’s Bees (for a wimpy $925M!) cuz I’m trying to find out if they changed the formula.  I had heard a rumor they did and before I put them on BLAST on my blog, I wanted to get my facts straight.  Anyways, during my search I came across this little beauty and knew I had to share.  Now from what I can tell these ratings are based on twenty years worth of data and not just merely the opinion of some gone-completely-off-the-grid-tree-hugging-dirt-worshipping-hippie. Although I do have a fondess and fierce loyalty to said gone-completely-off-the-grid-tree-hugging-dirt-worshipping-hippie…this doesn’t appear to be how these guys work.  This site is about calling companies out on their BS and then posting it on the internet.  I love it!

PS Did you know Clorox still uses 1% toxic chemmies in their “green” products but don’t disclose it because the law says they don’t have to?  LIARS!

toxic tub

Hi ya’ll! Sorry it’s been a few days since my last post.  Life has been, well, a little hectic and I’ll share with you all the sordid details in a few. But for now, I wanted to be sure that you guys get to read the report that the Environmental Working Group recently put out on contaminants found in our children’s bath products.  I only use California Baby on Kiki  so I’m not sweating this too much (other than the fact that I’m totally pissed at the FDA…again!) but I do want us to pass this info around to everyone we know!

Another great source of info is the sister site to the Environmental Working Group, Skin Deep.  This site is where you should go to get up to date, accurate and important info about all of our skin care products.  Save both links!!

gummi crib rail cover review II

Well, I hate to do it…but I’m really disappointed with the Gummi Crib Rail Cover. They keep coming off and the instructions say to use a blow dryer to heat them up to get them to stick back on but they won’t stick (PLUS – who’s got the time to stand over your little one’s crib for 30 minutes blow drying a crib rail cover back on.)

I’ve lost two of them now and once the glue strip comes off – the rail covers are pretty much useless. Not to mention that the glue strip itself came off the rail cover and stuck to the crib which them ended up in Kiki’s mouth. The crib rail covers stick on firmly the first time but the least bit of tugging on them and they come right off. It’s a great concept but not very durable. I had to buy four of them and at $10 a pop, I’ve just tossed $20 down the crapper. Sux.

Not sure what other options are out there for those of us who have a crib with round crib rails…anyone come up with anything let me know!

Wysi Wipe

Only I would receive a request to test paper products during the middle of my paper towel boycott! Which by the way is still going strong!!! Anyway – I received an email from Canawipe Distributors asking me if I would like to test out a product they have called Wysi Wipe. The Wysi Wipe is a multipurpose wipe made of 100% pulp free fibre, is scent free and biodegradable! Each wipe is about the size of a nickel and shaped like a tablet. All you do is add your liquid of choice depending on what you want to use it with. I added water and vinegar (separately) and used them to clean everything in my kitchen, the litter boxes and the bathroom. The wipes held up pretty well and didn’t fall apart with all of my vigorous wiping! I was surprised to see how well they did in the litter boxes and bathroom..no shredding or tearing. I love how compact they are and how quickly they expand and unfold once you add liquid. I also had another fellow Nugget try them out and she said they rock! And since they are biodegradable – you can flush them once you’re done. Just PLEASE only flush if you used a natural liquid like vinegar or water or something that is biodegradable!

I even tossed a few in Kiki’s diaper bag and used after a meal or for just a general wipe down. Which we do a lot of these days!

I’m not sure where you can get them in the US…I’ll have to find out and let ya know! But if you want some for yourself, be sure to check out their site at the link below.
